Remembering The Kana | Part-1-2

This book helps learners master reading and writing the two Japanese syllabaries—hiragana and katakana—in about three hours each. The “three hours” refers to focused cumulative study time, not continuous sessions or classroom learning.

Both sections of the book follow the same structure and share reference tables. Beginners should start with the hiragana section before moving on to katakana. The characters are presented in dictionary order, which differs from the learning order, so readers will move back and forth through the lessons. Lessons 3 to 5 in the hiragana section teach a simple method for remembering this dictionary order, which is essential for using Japanese dictionaries.

Learners who already know some hiragana are advised not to skip around, because the method builds progressively and relies on concepts introduced earlier. They may skim quickly through familiar material, but should not skip it entirely.

Each lesson is followed by a short break to improve focus and efficiency. A suggested pace is two lessons per day, allowing learners to complete all six lessons by the third day.
